Table Talk's NEW Executive Head Chef

We thought we'd take the chance to introduce you to our fabulous new Executive Chef Gerald Aberdeen, who is heading the team here at Table Talk. The South African-born chef has 15 years of culinary experience and in his busy new role we've managed to track him down to find out about his favourite foodie things . . .

What's your favourite comfort food?

A barbecue with friends or family, where everyone brings something.

How and when did you learn to cook?

At home with my mother in South Africa who is a restaurant owner and excellent chef. I then trained under Garth Stoebel, the captain of the South African Culinary Team.

Which London restaurant would you recommend?

Locanda Locatelli, for its good honest food using ingredients of the highest quality.

Which celebrity chef inspires you?

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall for his unpretentious style and for putting ‘food before fame'.

List 5 ingredients that regularly appear in your shopping basket?

Chorizo sausage, risotto rice, lots of fresh fruit, wild mushrooms and curry paste.

What are your latest food discoveries?

Bloody Mary tomatoes stuffed with vodka jelly and celery salt

What are the best dishes on the new Autumn/Winter menu?

Slow cooked lamb cannon with ras el hanout, spiced piquillo peppers, imam byaldi and red pepper jam or Roast loin of Roe deer en croute, braised red cabbage, fondant potato, parsnip puree and bitter chocolate sauce.

MJT Holdings Appoint New Sales & Marketing Director

Ruth Lawton-Owen has joined MJT Holdings, the parent company of renowned event caterers Table Talk and Blue Strawberry, in the newly created role of Sales and Marketing Director. Working alongside Operations Director Matt Hubbard, Ruth will focus on developing venue relationships for the company and increasing the sales focus. Previously with the Moving Venue Caterers, Ruth brings a wealth of catering, events and venue experience to these well known brands.
