Additional Friday nights of swinging live music and new grand entrance

18/11/08

Following the success of the alternative live music and entertainment sets at Swan at the Globe Bar, located on Bankside, alongside Shakespeare's Globe, the directors of the award winning Brasserie & Bar have added a string of free Friday night acts to ensure a swinging countdown to Christmas 08 in the Bar. Added to this, the Swan at the Globe Bar & Brasserie (on the first and second levels) have a brand new entrance giving diners direct access to one of London's outstanding year-round eating and bar destinations straight from the riverside walkway at Bankside.

Swan at the Globe Brasserie will inject its own sense of theatre around the new entrance, with projected images of a beautiful Swan flying along the pavement at Bankside outside the Brasserie, a welcoming hostess guiding guests to the Bar and Brasserie and the lively and original Winter programme of live weekend entertainment in the Bar, to complement the stunning British menu and fine wines in the Brasserie.

Brand new for Friday nights is the award-winning trumpeter Steve Fishwick who regularly plays with the BBC big band and recorded his latest CD in New York with jazz great Cedar Walton. Ray Carless, meanwhile, is one of the finest saxophonists on the contemporary UK scene and a founder member with Courtney Pine of Jazz Jamaica. Carless will perform at Swan at the Globe Bar with the wonderful Dominic Grant - a guitarist of warmth, feel and rhythm.

Esther Bennett a talented singer and sax player, with enormous humour will be joined for her fabulous repertoire of jazz and classic pop songs by the cream of London's musicians. The outstanding, young musician Tim Thornton, who has already played all over the world, is the son of acclaimed opera star Sally Burgess and amazing pianist Neal Thornton, and will be joined at Swan at the Globe by special guest Matt Gough whose lyrical trumpet playing is being compared to the likes of the legendary Chet Baker.

Scottish singer Marie Murphy will be bringing her jazzy jingle bells on the last Friday before Christmas to give Swan at the Globe Bar guests a fabulous ‘swansong' before Christmas.

Commenting on the expanded music programme, director of operations, Richard Edney, said: "It's great to have the Friday night live acts in addition to the already popular Saturday night and Sunday afternoon sessions in the Bar at Swan at the Globe. Valentina Cesario has been packing the bar with her outstanding voice delivering the finest Jazz and Bossa music since the middle of October; whilst the unique Fiztrovia Radio Hour with its  cult following in London, is expected to deliver a full house in November and December when they perform a story line from a ‘live' 1940's radio hour, complete with vintage forties outfits, gramophones and comical sound effects to transport guests back to wartime Britain."
