Cold War Modern: Design 1945-70

13/10/08

The period after the Second World War was one of anxiety and tension
but also one of great optimism and unprecedented technological development.
This exhibition examines how design was shaped by the cold war period
against the backdrop of the battle between communism and capitalism,
the advances of the space race, and the international competition to be
modern.

Art and design were not peripheral symptoms of politics during the Cold War: they played a central role in representing and sometimes challenging the dominant political and social ideas of the age

On display from 25 September 2008 - 11 January 2009, this exhibition is available for private views alongside the V&A's spectacular galleries available for both receptions and dinners.
