Exciting changes at the Museum of Garden History
31/07/08
The Museum of Garden History's summer closure and transformation: exciting changes in late summer 2008. From July 31st to mid October, Dow Jones Architects will transform the interior of the Museum with their competition winning design. During this time, the museum will close its doors to the public for the construction of new spaces for education and events and a new gallery, the Belvedere. The permanent collection will be re-displayed on an upper level, Mezzanine, and this new, larger space will mean that many previously un-viewed treasures will be on view to the public. Additionally, the new gallery, the Belvedere, will house a changing programme of exhibitions, both historic and contemporary; and the museum will become the only venue in Britain dedicated to exhibitions about gardens and garden design. The Belvedere will open with the first-ever retrospective of Beth Chatto, one of the most influential living gardeners in Britain who is perhaps best known for her pioneering, ecological approach to gardening which was developed in the 1960s, yet is so relevant to gardeners today.
The Museum will reopen in mid October 2008 under its new name ‘The Garden Museum'. Click here to find out more about this exciting transformation.
