Fine Dining at The Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms

21/08/08

Hot on the heels of the refurbishment of The Harmsworth Room comes the appointment of Sue Snape as Head Chef. Sue joins General Manager Nick Owen, who is now in his third month at the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms.

A member of the Craft Guild of Chefs, Sue Snape was awarded Class Winner and Silver Medal Sodexho Chef of the year June 2006 while working as relief Head Chef for Directors Table. Since then she has been working at The Hospital Club, Delaware North, Pasley and Tyler private members club and Baxter Storey before joining the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms as Head Chef in June 2008.

Also new to the venue is a fine dining offer for up to 45 guests. Two new stylish and unpretentious menus have been created to reflect Sue and Nick's joint commitment to quality, flavour and provenance.

The first is a six-course fine dining signature menu with butler service. Highlights include a demi tasse of summer squash with queen scallop brochette followed by fillets of red mullet, seafood bisque and saffron fondant. A lemon & vodka sorbet is followed by slow roast belly of pork, savoy cabbage, and a ginger & clove jus. Wild berry terrine, strawberry soup, honey tuille and basil syrup is served for pudding and the meal is finished with an artisan cheese platter.

The second menu creates a relaxed experience where simple, honest food can be shared and enjoyed in an informal and lively atmosphere. Terrines of ‘hot-smoked’ salmon or pork and herbs are to be shared around the table and accompanied by cornichons, olives, roast tomato and fresh baked breads. Whole roasted striploin of beef is carved at the table and served with classic accompaniments. For fish lovers monkfish en croûte is also carved at the table and accompanied by seasoned green beans and a classic béarnaise. Wild berry terrine and a selection of fine English cheeses conclude the meal.

The new fine dining menus at the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms can be experienced in the Harmsworth Room or Switch Room. Recently redesigned and refitted, the Harmsworth Room gives clients the opportunity to party in a unique historic setting, steeped in the atmosphere of a wartime bunker, but with all the creature comforts of a modern venue. It is the perfect space for drinks receptions, dinners and lavish banquets. We are delighted to announce that the Switch Room is the latest room to be will be given a complete overhaul. Scheduled to open in early autumn, this room promises to be a rare, intimate and exciting new venue for fine dining, particularly perfect for events of up to 25 guests.

The Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms are available to hire for exclusive corporate hospitality events. This hire package includes exclusive use of the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms, deluxe canapé menu, two glasses of champagne served on arrival and starts at £49.00 per person + VAT.
