Leighton House Museum
Arabian nights in the heart of Kensington
Steeped in the history of Victorian art and architecture, Leighton House was the home of the great Victorian painter and President of the Royal Academy, Frederic Lord Leighton (1830-1896).
This hidden gem was built in 1864 as a showcase for artistic and aesthetic taste.
The centrepiece of the house is undoubtedly the famous Arab Hall, built to accommodate Leighton’s priceless collection of 16th and 17th century Islamic tiles, complete with a fountain at the centre.
The museum also houses an outstanding collection of High Victorian art including paintings by Leighton, Burne-Jones, Millais and their contemporaries, as well as ceramics by William De Morgan.
Leighton entertained the cream of Victorian society in style at his famous soirees, and the tradition continues. Opulent interiors combine with the intimacy of a private home to make this an exceptional venue for entertaining.
Guests can evoke the world of the Arabian Nights with a cocktail reception against the stunning backdrop of the Arab Hall, or dine in the studio where Leighton painted his greatest works. In the summer, there is access to the peaceful private garden.
Leighton House is available to hire for private and corporate events in the evenings from Monday to Saturday.
