Unique Venues of London (UVL), the capital’s network of elite venues has recently taken on seven new members, bringing the total number to 68. The new members are; Benjamin Franklin House, Christ Church Spitalfields, The National Theatre, The National Trust’s Osterley Park, WWT London Wetland Centre, Sir John Soane’s Museum and LSO St Lukes.
The depth and diversity of these new members give increased weight to UVL’s significant role in the industry, demonstrating the success of the UVL vision. Lisa Hatswell, Chairman of UVL and Corporate Sales Manager at British Airways London Eye said: “I am delighted to announce seven new members to UVL. These venues alone represent all that is visually stunning and totally unique about London venues, added to our already impressive range of members, you begin to understand the impact we are having.”
A brief introduction to the new UVL members:
Benjamin Franklin House
Located in the heart of London, just steps from Trafalgar Square, is the world’s only remaining Franklin home. Built c.1730, this beautifully restored Georgian townhouse is now open to the public as a dynamic museum and educational facility as well as opening its doors for corporate and private events.
Christ Church Spitalfields
A grade 1 listed building built by Nicholas Hawksmoor was close to demolition in 1960 but in 1976 the Friends of Christ Church Spitalfields formed in order to save and restore the building. With a generous private donation, English Heritage and lottery funding almost £10m was raised to restore Christ Church to its former glory.
The National Theatre
Situated on London’s South Bank, the National Theatre stages over 20 new productions each year in its three auditoriums. The building has many beautiful terraces and entertaining spaces, and from 2008, a new events space situated on the roof of the National Theatre, with 360º views of London, will be available from April – September for events.
The National Trust - Osterley Park
A magnificent neo-classical house designed in the 18th-century which was built to simply impress and entertain. Now, Osterley Park is one of the National Trust’s exclusive properties available to hire for corporate events, so that its splendour can once again be enjoyed on very special occasions.
WWT London Wetland Centre
The 43 hectare London Wetland Centre is the best urban site in Europe to watch wildlife and is an international award winning visitor attraction that can be used for both coporate and private events. It opened in 2000 and is one of nine sites making up the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.
Sir John Soane's Museum
The museum was created by one of Britain’s greatest architects Sir John Soane. It has been a public museum since his death in 1837 and survives as an integral whole, its interiors restored and its works of art, including architectural fragments, Graeco –Roman marbles, paintings and sculptures, displayed in the same authentic arrangements as in Soane’s day, reflecting their creator’s architectural ingenuity, imagination and love of beauty.
LSO St Lukes
This prestigious concert and events venue, a stunning contemporary conversion of a Grade I listed building, is the home of the London Symphony Orchestra’s music education and community programme, LSO Discovery.
To find out more about the new members come to the UVL stand (L101) at International Confex, Earls Court, 12th – 14th February 2008 where you will be able to pick up an updated version of their award winning brochure.
