Unique Opportunity to Dine in Painted Hall
Following the closure of the Royal Hospital for Seaman in 1869 the Royal Navy established the Old Royal Naval College and the Painted Hall was reclaimed as a dining hall. Naval Officers from across the globe enjoyed many dinners including an annual Trafalgar Night Dinner. The legacy of this tradition continues with the Greenwich Foundation celebrating Trafalgar Night on the closest Saturday to 21st October. A four course meal with wine complete with the parade of the Baron of Beef and Ships-of-the-Line
Set on the banks of the Thames, the Old Royal Naval College provides a wealth of alternative settings for different events. Dine in the magnificent Painted Hall or party in the grounds with its lawns, colonnaded terraces and sheltered courtyards.
The Old Royal Naval College, founded in 1694 as the Royal Hospital for Seamen, is a superb example of Baroque landscape. Designed by the greatest architects of the day including Wren and Hawksmoor, it is now managed by the Greenwich Foundation.
The Painted Hall, one of the finest banqueting rooms in Europe, was used for State occasions for many years. With its soaring columns and richly decorated walls and ceilings, it seats up to 450.
The Admiral's House overlooks the river and its elegant, peaceful atmosphere provides the perfect venue for dinner parties, awayâ€"days and cocktail receptions. The vaulted Queen Mary Ante Room and King William Restaurant, are excellent for conferences, receptions and dinner dances. The Chapel, with its interior designed by James "Athenian" Stuart, is available for preâ€"dinner concerts. Only five miles from central London. Evening parking.
