The Order was founded in the 11th Century to care for sick pilgrims; its modern role supports St John Ambulance, the international first aid charity. St John’s Gate now houses the Museum of the Order of St John and a series of spectacularly beautiful historic rooms with unique and idiosyncratic histories. It also owns the Priory Church of the Order of St John with its celebrated Norman crypt and glorious garden.
