Events Manager - National Portrait Gallery

Full-time, 40 hours (5 days) per week

£26,500 per annum

Fixed-term position for 21 months

The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or who are currently contributing to British history and culture.  The Gallery attracts over 2 million visits a year and is among London’s most popular attractions, it reaches and engages these, and further UK and global audiences, with its extensive display, exhibition, research, learning, outreach, publishing, digital and national programmes.

The National Portrait Gallery hosts approximately 130 ‘out of hours’ events per year. This includes a number of internal events, corporate partner and sponsor bookings and private venue hires. Reporting to the Head of Events, the Events Manager is a key member of the Events team and the wider Communications and Development Department at the National Portrait Gallery. The post holder will be responsible for managing and delivering a programme of internal events as well as overseeing a number of events held at the venue by our Supporters, Corporate Partners and Venue Hire clients.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent), with proven previous event management experience ideally gained within a museum or heritage organisation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital to this role, along with a high level of proficiency working with customer relationship databases. Excellent customer-service and administrative skills, along with meticulous attention to detail, discretion and diplomacy are also essential.
