The environment:
- Harrow School is situated within a beautiful site in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world, with around 830 boys studying at Harrow.
- The School’s Catering Department has over 60 staff led by the Director of Catering, the Catering Manager and the Executive Head Chef, supported by a large kitchen brigade, catering assistants and kitchen porters.
- The team produces over 3,000 meals per day during term time and over 25,000 packed meals per year.
- The School also caters for sports teas, open days, parents’ meetings, departmental dinners, working lunches, and provides high-end hospitality for events such as wedding receptions and conferences.
The role:
- You will run all aspects of Harrow School’s internal and external catering events, such as breakfasts, canape drinks receptions, VIP lunches/dinners, afternoon teas and weddings in various locations across the Harrow School estate.
- Collaborating with colleagues, you will ensure that all hospitality services are customer focused, delivered efficiently, within budget and in line with the highest catering service standards.
- The role is very hands-on and involves managing the hospitality team, addressing staffing matters, event planning, financial reporting, wine purchasing and stock control.
- Staff turnover is low, so training, developing and supervising service staff is a key priority of the role.
- This will require flexibility, adaptability and professionalism at all times.
The skills:
- You will have an excellent grounding of working in a front-line, customer-facing, fast-paced workplace, with highly developed organisational skills so that you can deliver exceptional dining experiences.
- You will use your knowledge of high-end environments and your excellent communication skills to guide and motivate your team, and will support the Director of Catering with accurate budgets, rotas and efficient operational planning.
