The walls are adorned with historic prints, watercolours and paintings spanning 350 years, displayed alongside modern images created by scientists, imaging specialists, photographers and micro-CT scanners.

The gallery explores how artists and scientists view the natural world through historic prints, watercolours and modern images. This combination of old and new will be mirrored in your event. Guests will arrive through the modern Darwin Centre entrance, pass by the fascinating Spirit Collection area, then enter the Images of Nature gallery. The traditional Waterhouse architecture provides a beautiful and intimate setting for the rest of the evening.

Until 13 January 2022 the gallery will also feature a fantastic free display of artworks and manuscripts exploring the life and interests of Joseph Banks (1743-1820) through some of his extraordinary collections. Banks was one of the most influential people in British science in the late 1700s. Thanks to a large inherited fortune, he dramatically changed how many people understood the natural world and used its resources. Highlights from the display include watercolours of fossil fish and plants from Monte Bolca, Italy, and original artwork from Captain Cook's Endeavour voyage of 1768-1771.

Our dedicated and experienced team will provide expert support to plan and deliver your event in this stunning and unique gallery space. By hosting an event at the Museum you are helping to inspire the next generation of scientists and supporting our vital research into the big challenges facing our planet.
