Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment holds exclusive screening

To promote the Blu-ray and DVD release of 'The Book Thief', Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment hosted and exclusive screening at Churchill War Rooms.

Guests were greeted with a drinks and canapé reception and then invited to experience the film in the actual and once secret underground bunker where Sir Winston Churchill planned the historic War effort.

As part of this private event, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment also ran a Twitter competition organised by Sodexo Prestige at Churchill War Rooms, offering one lucky winner a pair of tickets to attend the screening.

Participants were encouraged to follow the Churchill War Rooms Venue twitter stream (CWR_Venue) run by Sodexo Prestige, and re-tweet (RT) the featured competition tweets using the hash tag #TheBookThiefBluray.  The week long campaign saw Alainna Georgiou announced as the lucky winner and attend the event with a friend.

Alainna said: “I decided to enter the competition as The Book Thief is a very important story for me as I chose to write my undergraduate dissertation on the book.  I found myself immersed in the story as I wrote the 10,000 word essay and have since been awarded first class honours for the dissertation and the Graham Rees prize. Thus, the evening felt like the perfect way to round off my degree.”

Commenting on the experience she adds: “The night itself was very atmospheric, the perfect setting for the World War II tale. After a look around the War Rooms we enjoyed some lovely canapés, including a beautiful mini sausage and mash, then settled down to the film with a glass of wine. Overall, the night was a great experience and highly memorable.  My friend and I had a lovely evening.”

The Book Thief screening took place at Churchill War Rooms on Tuesday 8th July 2014, with event catering provided by Sodexo Prestige.
