Originally launched in April 2024, the Environmental Impact Roadmap was the museum’s first strategic framework to embed environmentally responsible practices across its Commercial Hire & Events operations.

This newly released edition reflects on the progress made over the past year and sets out new aims and targets to deepen impact and accountability across the supply chain.

Highlights from the report include:

  • A shift to 70% vegetarian and vegan menus across public and private catering.
  • Elimination of single-use plastics where possible.
  • Banning floral foam, and non-recyclable materials.
  • Collaboration with suppliers committed to Net Zero goals and Zero Waste to Landfill.
  • Case studies from flagship events such as the launch of Barbie®: The Exhibition and The World of Tim Burton, showcasing real-world applications of environmentally responsible practices.

The roadmap also outlines future ambitions, including:

  • Setting measurable carbon emission goals and KPIs for suppliers.
  • Expanding environmental accountability to include water stewardship.
  • Exploring the broader societal benefits of carbon reduction, particularly in ways that support the local community.

Livia Puggini, Head of Commercial Partnerships & Events at the Design Museum, comments: “At the Design Museum, we believe that creativity and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. This roadmap is more than a checklist - it’s a commitment to rethinking how we deliver events, and to inspiring our clients and partners to join us in making meaningful change. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and excited about what’s to come.”
