Tate Britain was created as a new gallery specifically for British art. Its great success led to its expansion through the 19th and 20th centuries.

This included the vast central galleries known as: The Duveens, named after their founder and famous art dealer (Joel Duveen). Originally, they housed the gallery’s famous Turner paintings. But following the first world war changes were made, turning them into the first public galleries in England designed for sculpture. These neoclassical galleries have now been open since 1937 and are unmissable space in Tate Britain.

For 25 years The Duveens has hosted an annual artistic commission, the extensive space allowing large and thought-provoking artworks. These pieces have ranged from industrial machinery, the recreation of a peace protest and live performance art.

However, between these art installations, for a select number of weeks through February- April, the Duveens galleries become a canvas for exclusive event hire. They can become yours to dazzle and inspire. Whether that takes the form of a fashion show, award ceremony or a large brand activation, they make a spectacular space to host a once in a lifetime event.
