Did you know? The Queen’s Room at the HAC commands a Royal Legacy

December 2024

The Honourable Artillery Company’s (HAC) Queen’s Room is a setting full of history and royal charm. The HAC stands as one of the British Army's oldest regiments, with the Queen’s Room serving as a testament to its durable legacy.

Located in Armoury House, the significance of the Queen’s Room is reinforced by the story of Queen Victoria, who, as Captain General, found herself excluded from the Long Room (which was reserved exclusively for men) during her official visits to the HAC. Undeterred by tradition, Queen Victoria sought comfort and connection in the cosy embrace of the Queen’s Room.

With its abundance of natural light and elegant period features, the Queen’s Room was Queen Victoria’s sanctuary with its striking blue and yellow colour scheme, decorated with impressive portraits, including one of the young Queen Elizabeth II, creating an atmosphere of regal sophistication.

Today, the Queen’s Room remains a much-loved venue at the HAC, hosting a variety of events from intimate weddings to civil partnerships, while preserving its historical significance. It serves as a touching reminder of Queen Victoria's resilience and her enduring association with the HAC.
