This February, Dulwich Picture Gallery will show the very first major museum exhibition devoted to the work of British female modernist painter Vanessa Bell (1879 – 1961). Widely acclaimed as a central figure of the Bloomsbury Group, Bell was a pivotal player in 20th century British art, inventing a new language of visual expression.
Approximately 100 oil paintings, photographs, ceramics and fabrics will reveal her pioneering work in the genres of portraiture, still life and landscape, focusing on her most distinctive period of experimentation in the 1910s. It will also shine a spotlight on her pictures of women, which created a new space for women in the history of art.
In presenting this intrepid artist for fresh consideration, Vanessa Bell will also champion the values of joy, pleasure, freedom and tolerance, creative fellowship and the life of the mind.
To make the most of this vibrant exhibition, entertain in the magnificent Soane Gallery at Dulwich Picture Gallery to enjoy an exclusive private view as part of your event.
The show will run from 8 February to 4 June 2017. Contact the Events Team on 020 8299 8713 or events@dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk to book your date now.
