For the first time in years Roundhouse opens New Year’s Eve for hire

Tuesday, July 23, 2024 - 13:00

The North London venue has hosted many memorable parties for New Year’s Eve, notwithstanding Rick Astley’s concert last year featuring Sharleen Spiteri and Rylan Clarke for the BBC’s celebrations. Over 2 million people tuned in to watch Rick bring in 2024 at Camden’s Roundhouse.

Now, for the first time in years this iconic rock ‘n’ roll venue in Camden is available for this New Year’s Eve.

Head of Events Miles Eady said “The whole event was brilliant and packed with over 1,000 guests. Rick is a great performer, and everyone loved the duets with Sharleen and Rylan.”

The first New Year’s bash was staged in 1966 just two months after opening as an arts venue and featured Pink Floyd, The Who and The Move. Lighting artist Joel Brown brought colourful oil-based slides which were projected onto the bands, moving and shapeshifting as the oils warmed in the projector, creating a hippy, trippy effect, which set a precedent for lighting during the era. Today, the lighting rig is state of the art with over 100 LED lights that can be programmed to music and choreography.

Eady continued “The sound and lighting are now incredible. We constantly invest in it each year and the sound system is of ‘touring artist’ quality, so clients can expect a high spec sound on every frequency. We also tailor it to any configuration so that everyone has exceptional sound wherever they are in the room.”

In 1972 the Grand Magic Circus took a turn, pushing the boundaries of tradition, mixing circus acts with cabaret and other theatrical forms. It was instrumental in inspiring other circus and theatrical performers to do things differently from that point on, paving the way for De La Guarda and Fuerza Bruta which has returned to Roundhouse this month for a short residency after over a decade away.

Miles continued “the shows were fun yet anarchic, emphasising that anything was artistically possible at Roundhouse, people craved to see what would be next and still do to this day.”

In 1991 nomadic rave crews Spiral Tribe and Mutoid Waste Company took over Roundhouse for a weeklong party with several sound systems and DJ’s. 1,000 ravers attended with the party ending on 2nd January.

2011 brought La Soiree’s New Year’s Eve Afterparty, featuring burlesque dancer Kitty Bang Bang riding a motorbike onto the stage and fire-breathing atop the grand piano. She recanted later “that was definitely my most favourite New Year’s party ever.”

Miles finished by saying “all these parties have been iconic in their own era and now a promoter or a private client has the opportunity to stage their own incredible evening in this state-of-the-art venue with great security and plenty of amenities for up to 2,000 guests.”

Roundhouse is available for hire from 20th December – 1st January 2025. To enquire please contact the team on: 0203 985 1315
