Fisher Productions Produce the Gurkha 200 Pageant

Fisher Productions are proud to have been chosen to work with The Gurkha Welfare Trust on the Gurkha 200 Pageant.

2015 is the bicentenary of Gurkha service to the British Army. The highlight of the bicentenary celebrations will be the Pageant in the grounds of The Royal Hospital Chelsea on the evening of 9th June 2015.

Organised by and in aid of The Gurkha Welfare Trust, this spectacular open-air Pageant will chronicle 200 years of Gurkha service. The story of the Gurkha soldier will be told with narration by Joanna Lumley and Dan Snow, battle re-enactments and musical performances by the popular Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas.

Hundreds of serving soldiers and families will take part in the performance attended by HM The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Prince Harry.

Following the Pageant, a VIP dinner will be held in the Great Hall and a friends and family event in College Court, with authentic Nepalese and Gurkha mess kitchens, drinks and live music.

A full dress rehearsal is being held on 8th June to which the Chelsea Pensioners who reside at The Royal Hospital have been invited.

Fisher Productions are responsible for full production of the event, co-ordinating creation of the video and soundtrack whilst working closely with the Metropolitan Police to ensure full security.

Mike Cutting Head of Production for this event said “This is an incredible experience to be involved with.  The story of the Gurkhas is fascinating and even more poignant given it is being held only 6 weeks after the earthquake in Nepal. We are thrilled to be helping to make this event happen and to be working with The Gurkha Welfare Trust”

Karen England Director of Fundraising & Communication for The Gurkha Welfare Trust commented “Gurkha 200 is the pinnacle in our bicentennial celebrations and we are thrilled to have Fisher Productions producing the event.  With their experience in producing similar landmark events, we know we are in safe hands.

We were all shocked when, whilst planning this event of celebration, two large earthquakes and a series of aftershocks hit Nepal, the Gurkha homeland.    We immediately opened up our 21 Area Welfare Centres to the relief effort, providing bases from which other NGOs and aid organisation could work from.  Our staff have been deployed to the worst affected areas, providing a unique local knowledge.  While our immediate concern is the wellbeing of the thousands of Gurkha veterans and families, we are also providing help where we can to other families and communities affected by the disaster.  We have allocated an immediate £2 million to the emergency from our reserves and launched an Earthquake Response Fund.

The Fund has received an exceptional level of support, and since the disaster, the UK has donated more to Nepal than any other nation. Undoubtedly, this is due in no small part to our appreciation for a country that has been our staunch ally for the last 200 years. “
