Moving Venue

2017 is the dawn of a new era for event caterer Moving Venue (who cater at Cutty Sark, Guildhall, Hampton Court Palace and LSO St Luke’s), with a new management structure, fresh talent and a rebrand to match! Taking inspiration from their name, the new logo is inspired by the heritage of their venue portfolio and the coordinates correspond to their base in Deptford. However, never standing still, the logo too is an ever-changing feast, incorporating the coordinates of accredited venues to provide them with their very own unique Moving Venue logo. 

The rebrand also signifies another change for the company, with the announcement of the new Group Managing Director of Catering – Tom Goodwin. No stranger to catering, Tom, a chef by trade, first met Greg Lawson, CEO of Smart Group some twenty five years ago as a waiter at one of his early Christmas party companies. Tom first opened the restaurant Stones before creating Stones Events, the luxury party planning caterer based in Leicester, who have recently celebrated their 10th birthday.

As the company goes from strength to strength, a move to London may seem like a strange decision, however for Tom, it has been a natural progression. ‘I joined Moving Venue in January as a consultant, having engaged in a number of discussions with Greg about the future of the brand. What I found was a passionate, dynamic and highly skilled team within this highly respected and trusted caterer; however I felt they were missing out on their right place within the market. I have always looked up to Moving Venue, especially in the early days of my career and have menus going back to 2004, so to suddenly be working with this brand and to be instrumental in its next steps has been a challenge I simply couldn’t say no to’.

There is also the final piece of the jigsaw with the anticipation that Stones Events will join the Smart Group in early 2018, sitting alongside Moving Venue and Smart Hospitality under the Smart Group umbrella to make up the overall catering division which Tom oversees.

Alongside recently promoted Sales and Marketing Director Chloe Martin, the two are remodelling the catering division to incorporate the style and creativity they share.

In conjunction with the rebrand they have made some exciting additions to the team including Ben Paris, who joins as Head of Sales previously at Dish, and Jay Decker, Group Head of Bars, formerly from Sushi Samba and The Ivy. These new hires further demonstrate the company’s willingness to invest in the right team and bring in talent from across the hospitality industry.

Founder and former Managing Director Richard Beggs, has now become Chairman and comments 'Much of Moving Venue’s success is due to consistently having a team that has been crafted from the best talent in the London catering market.  As Chairman I now work three days a week taking great care of some of our wonderful clients and venues. I am delighted that it is just as exciting in 2017 as 33 years ago when I began, as perhaps the most dynamic leadership and management team has been assembled to hold the reigns of Moving Venue.'
