Historic Hendon explores the story of the area from its early days as the London Aerodrome through to its transformation into the home of RAF Museum London today. Developed by young people, the exhibition uncovers fascinating stories of aviation, the local community and even connections to the Suffrage movement.

The project gives the Youth Panel the opportunity to explore and interpret local history in their own way, bringing fresh perspectives to stories that have shaped both Hendon and British aviation.

The exhibition opened on 10 August 2026 and runs until 4 July 2027, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to discover the stories behind one of the most significant locations in British aviation history.
Historic Hendon is free to visit and forms part of the Museum’s wider commitment to connecting new generations with the history, people and stories behind its collection.
