RCP London Events, which hosts over 570 events per year at its London events venue and digitally across its virtual event platform, has launched a British Sign Language and live caption feature for those that require it.
Piloted at a series of events for the British Association of Teachers of the Deaf, the product is now available for use at all events being held at the venue, whether hybrid or virtual. The key benefits of the feature include: automated captions for pre-recorded content, automated captions for live content, human generated captions for live events, live British Sign Language interpreters for live events and a live simultaneous translation app built-into the platform for multi-language events.
There are 11 million deaf or hard of hearing people in the UK according to the Action on Hearing Loss and recent research from the charity, deaf and hard of hearing people are at increased risk of experiencing mental health problems. The additional barriers they can experience on a daily basis can have an adverse impact on their mental health, including stress and frustration. These feelings can lead to anxiety and isolation which can exacerbate the challenges that deaf and hard of hearing people already experience. Increased deaf awareness and appropriate education can significantly reduce negative impacts on mental health.
RCP London Events’, Head of Commercial Events, Natacha Allen says: “We are delighted to be able to offer this necessary support for those attending conferences and events at our venue, whether in person or virtually.
“We’ve received some great feedback from the delegates who have used the new feature and we look forward to offering these services to our clients going forward.”
