The Soane Stable Yard opens to the public on Tuesday 1 October, following a major £12.2 million refurbishment project. This is the first time since the Royal Hospital Chelsea opened in 1692 that this unique historic site will be accessible to the public seven days a week. This three-year project has been made possible with thanks to a £3.2 million grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and support from other benefactors and charitable trusts.
The Soane Stable Yard includes the fascinating Chelsea Pensioners Museum, a free, permanent, interactive display on the rich history of the Royal Hospital and the lives of Chelsea Pensioners through the centuries; a cafe, gift shop, Post Office, and activity room.
Tours of the Royal Hospital with a Chelsea Pensioner are also available, priced at £25 for adults and can be booked by visiting: Chelsea-pensioners.co.uk/visit/tours
