Somerset House

Some of the industry’s leading event organisers were treated to an exclusive preview of Somerset House’s largest and most versatile indoor event space at an open house event on 19th and 20th April.

The 1,059 sqm Embankment Galleries, which run the entire length of the building’s South Wing, have previously been used for exhibitions such as Valentino: Master of Couture and Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore. However, between September 2017 and February 2018, the galleries will be available for hire - ideal for a range of events from fashion shows and product launches to experiential events and large dinners.

Event organisers were given a vivid picture of how the Embankment Galleries might look when the space was transformed by production company, Light Motif and florist, Pinstripes and Peonies. Each area depicted a different event set up including a product launch, a fashion show complete with catwalk and a lavish dinner. 
 
During this two-day event guests were given tours of the 800-person capacity venue and treated to mouth-watering cocktails and some delicious canapés by Somerset House’s onsite caterer.
 
Originally a barge house dating back to 1864, the contemporary event space, featuring stunning vaulted ceilings, significantly increases the event space available at Somerset House.
 
Jenny Freestone, Head of Corporate Events for Somerset House Trust adds: “This is the first time we have held an open house event at Somerset House and the response has been terrific. The flexibility of the space offers something unique to central London for the 2017-18 autumn / winter season.”
