Zafferano stages a Roman Supper Club in the Amphitheatre at Guildhall

Friday, November 9, 2018 - 10:15

After more than a hundred years of searching by archaeologists, London’s Roman Amphitheatre was finally rediscovered in 1988 deep in the subterranean vaults at Guildhall. Today, the Amphitheatre is one of the venue’s most interesting and unexplored spaces, which last month became the setting for a unique Zafferano cultivation dinner.

Zafferano clients were greeted by Gladiator waiters, fully clad, serving Romanesque cocktails and canapes; Black figs stuffed with buffalo ricotta, Squid ink cracker with baccala, friggitello pepper, and Tuscan veal tartare on sourdough, with smoked egg yolk, and crisp shallots.

Larry Walshe’s show-stopping floral designs flooded the space with an abundance of rich colours, and truss swathed with hops adorned anti-pasti food stations. Euphonica’s extraordinary artist, Jaxx, also set the scene with a combination of violin and loop pedal.

A handpicked list of exclusive clients dined at one long marble-topped table on Carpaccio of short horn beef, Pumpkin and girolle risotto, Brill with lobster sauce, all perfectly presented with Italian wines. Post-dinner, guests indulged on Rhubarb and Blood Orange Panna Cotta, and a selection of biscotti, together with Amalfi Lemon Sgroppino and Tiramisu Martinis.
