Museum of London

The Museum of London tells the incredible story of the world’s greatest city and its people, with the immersive and thought-provoking galleries taking guests on a journey exploring London’s history from prehistoric times to the present day.

The gallery spaces can be hired for exclusive evening events to create a truly unique experience for guests.

Whether it’s the People’s City Gallery which features the popular 1930s Art Deco Selfridges Lift, the authentic Victorian Walk with recreated shops and workrooms from the high streets and back alleys of late Victorian London, or The London 2012 Olympic Cauldron Gallery featuring Thomas Heatherwick’s iconic copper cauldron sculpture, your guests will have so much to explore and talk about!

Creating a memorable event journey for guests is so important and at the Museum of London you could opt for a networking drinks reception which takes guests around each of the galleries, or a sit-down dinner where guests dine within one gallery, getting up close and personal to the artefacts. There is also the option of adding curators or actors to the event who can take guests on an exclusive tour sharing in more detail the history of London, as well as all their insider knowledge!

With the countdown to the museum’s relocation to West Smithfield underway, this year marks the final opportunity to hire the galleries at London Wall and the London Ellipse Hall, the museum’s largest space, for events. All other event spaces, including the purpose-built Terrace Rooms with outdoor access, the Weston Theatre, Main Entrance, and the re-launched London Wall Bar & Kitchen will remain available to hire.

Whitechapel Gallery

Host your event in a work of art by hiring The Zilkha Auditorium at Whitechapel Gallery. The strikingly colourful assemblage of seating is designed by Turner Prize nominee Liam Gillick, and forms a component of the permanent Social Sculptures.

Gillick’s practise and featured artwork PROTOTYPE CONFERENCE ROOM WITH JOKE BY MATTHEW MODINE (ARRANGED BY MARKUS WISBECK) 1999/2009 is concerned with aesthetics of social spaces with a focus on modes of production rather than consumption. He is aware of how the different properties of materials, structure and colours can affect our surroundings and influence the way we behave. The titles of his individual pieces often allude to events or an activity, encouraging us to socially and intellectually explore our perception of the spaces that his works intervene.

The Zilkha Auditorium is a perfect space for conferences, training days and lectures, and has a capacity for up to 110 persons. Cost of hire includes a dedicated Events Manager and AV Technician.

All money raised from commercial hire at Whitechapel Gallery is returned to support the Education and Public programmes.
