Reframed: The Woman in the Window:

4 May – 4 September 2022

This Spring Dulwich Picture Gallery presents Reframed: The Woman in the Window, the first exhibition to explore the enigmatic motif of the ‘woman in the window’.

Featuring artworks from ancient civilisations to present day, the exhibition will bring together over 50 works by artists including Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, David Hockney, Louise Bourgeois, Cindy Sherman, Wolfgang Tillmans and Rachel Whiteread to reveal how artists have long used the motif to elicit a particular kind of response ranging from empathy to voyeurism. Featuring sculpture, painting, print, photography, film and installation art, the exhibition will identify the key geographic locations, cultures and time periods for which the ‘woman in the window’ had a particular meaning and what the motif reveals about issues of gender and visibility.

The exhibition also features newly commissioned digital artwork. Inspired by recorded conversations with community members it will be a poignant moment in the exhibition, focusing on themes of identity and perspectives.

Dippy, the nation’s favourite dinosaur to return to the Natural History Museum this spring!

It’s an exciting season at the Natural History Museum, with Dippy the Diplodocus is returning to the iconic London Museum after a tour that saw them meet over two million new friends around the UK.

Dippy, the 26-metre-long Diplodocus cast, will be returning to the Museum for a temporary installation after spending the past four years travelling the length and breadth the UK.

Along with the joy of reaching new swathes of the UK population, the tour has aimed to highlight the importance of tackling the current planetary emergency, educating and inspiring visitors to explore the nature on their own doorsteps and become advocates for the planet.

The special temporary installation at the Museum will give people the chance to see the nation’s favourite dinosaur in full splendour in South Kensington once again.

The display will be free to visit but booking tickets in advance will be required. You can sign up and be the first to hear when tickets will be available here: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit/exhibitions/dippy-returns.html

Dippy’s beautiful new display will also be available as part of the Museum’s venue hire bookings, so if you’re eager to dance, dine and celebrate in the company of the nation’s favourite dinosaur, get in touch with the team by emailing venues@nhm.ac.uk.

RIBA at 66 Portland Place

RIBA at 66 Portland Place’s intriguing new exhibition – Radical Rooms: Power of the Plan - opens on 28th April. This exciting collaboration between architect Charles Holland and visual artist Di Mainstone explores the idea of power within architecture and the relationship between the two within the architectural plan and our domestic spaces.

Spanning nearly 500 years, the exhibition is anchored in three domestic buildings from the 16th, 18th, and 20th centuries: Hardwick Hall, A la Ronde and Hopkins House. Drawing on an alternative history of female protagonists Bess of Hardwick, Jane and Mary Parminter and Patty Hopkins, Radical Rooms uses stories from architectural history and highlights moments when the plan has challenged the conventions of domestic life. Visitors can experience their stories through elaborate costume design and an immersive audio-visual performance at 66 Portland Place.
