Unique Venues of London gets connected with membership and supporting production suppliers via White Light’s SmartStage

Wednesday, July 22, 2020 - 15:15

With many of our 80+ member venues still closed due to COVID-19, yesterday saw the Unique Venues of London (UVL) conduct its UVL Connects meeting in a new digital format. As one of the consortium’s supporting suppliers, technical solutions specialist White Light (WL) provided all technical delivery for the two-part event, directly from its SmartStage studio in Wimbledon.

The Heads of Events from our membership were in remote attendance for the first part of the session, chaired by Managing Director Lisa Hatswell, live from the SmartStage. The wider members of the venues’ events teams then also joined remotely for part two, a panel discussion dedicated to the production elements of delivering hybrid events. To present this session, WL’s Venues Director, Jonjo Glynn, was joined on the SmartStage by UVL’s other supporting suppliers - Focus Lighting & Productions, Event Concept, Fisher Productions and Wise Productions.

Hatswell comments: “The lockdown during this pandemic has had a major impact on the commercial livelihood of our member venues and during this time, regular communication between us has been critically important. The technology behind WL’s SmartStage greatly enhanced this collaborative engagement for our meeting, re-connecting the whole membership and our suppliers, as if we were all physically together in one space.

Glynn adds: “As the industry is gearing up for a return to the delivery of events, hybrid solutions will undoubtedly be the format of choice for many organisations. While many of the venues will have facilitated hybrid elements of events in the past, a rapidly increasing adoption of this format presents a range of different options. Delivering the panel session with our fellow production suppliers was a fantastic way to connect with the members and answer all of their technical questions. The technology behind SmartStage enabled us to maximise the attendance and engagement, with minimal physical interaction required, so that social distancing guidelines could still be observed.”
