The Charterhouse

The Charterhouse is an almshouse and historic estate set in 7.5 acres of tranquil grounds in London’s vibrant Clerkenwell. An atmospheric central London setting for events, we are conveniently located close to transport links including the Elizabeth Line. Our fascinating story dates back to medieval times, spanning a Carthusian monastery, a grand Tudor mansion, and a pioneering charity founded by Thomas Sutton in 1611, which we proudly remain today.

Blending rich heritage with flexible indoor and outdoor spaces, the estate provides a captivating, prestigious setting for any occasion. Host grand banquets, conferences, and luxury corporate showcases in the grand Tudor Great Hall or opt for the historic elegance of the Great Chamber – where Elizabeth I once held court – for private dining, award ceremonies, and drinks receptions. The Norfolk Cloister is perhaps our most unique historic space, combining the remains of a medieval cloister with a Tudor garden gallery, and is perfect for weddings, immersive brand activations, and filming.

Outside, the Norfolk Garden provides a beautiful, "hidden" English country garden for summer receptions and al fresco dining, while Charterhouse Square extends our capacity even further, offering an expansive outdoor space ideal for large-scale events, summer parties, and experiential installations.
