Hintze Hall
Hintze Hall has a dramatic sense of place. With its grand entrance leading to soaring Romanesque arches, a magnificent stone staircase and 25m skeleton of a blue whale suspended from the ceiling, it is the ideal venue for all kinds of events.
Just some of the events we've held: dinner dances, after-show parties, fashion shows, award ceremony press launches, bar and bat mitzvahs, and weddings. Depending on the number of people and the nature of your event, you can also hire the adjoining galleries for your guests to explore.
Fossil Way [limited availability]
Waterhouse Way, part of the Waterhouse building, has beautiful architecture and some of the most complete fossils of prehistoric sea animals in the world. Guests can dine with a view of the giant sloth or even next to fossils that inspired stories of sea dragons.
North Hall [limited availability]
North Hall takes guests on a journey through the rich history of the Natural History Museum. Entering through the contemporary Darwin Centre and then on to the traditional dining space in North Hall, this is the perfect place to take in the grandeur of the Museum.
Images of Nature gallery
The Images of Nature gallery explores how artists and scientists view the natural world through historic prints, watercolours and modern images in.
This combination of old and new will be mirrored in your event, with guests arriving through the modern Darwin Centre entrance, passing the fascinating Spirit Collection area before entering the gallery, where the traditional Waterhouse architecture provides a beautiful and intimate setting for the rest of the evening.
Earth Hall
The celestial map adorning Earth Hall's walls provides a beautiful backdrop to the Museum's giant metal Earth sculpture. Sophie, the most intact Stegosaurus fossil ever found, takes pride of place, measuring almost six metres long.
Your guests will be surrounded with remarkable objects telling the story of our planet and the solar system, including moon-rock, precious metals and fluorescent minerals. These specimens tell their own stories of Earth's chaotic past.
Volcanoes and Earthquakes
En route to an event in the Volcanoes and Earthquakes gallery, guests pass Sophie, the most complete Stegosaurus fossil in the world, before ascending through the giant metal globe in Earth Hall. Once in the Volcanoes and Earthquakes area, guests can explore rare exhibits, film footage and our famous earthquake simulator.
The size and shape of this gallery make it a great fit for drinks receptions, providing guests with unique specimens to view and discuss while enjoying refreshments.
Earth's Treasury
Earth's Treasury proudly hosts glittering displays of unique specimens - from gold nuggets to Stonehenge rock and our very own 'kryptonite'. Guests can witness how diamonds are formed and cut, and examine royal links to precious stones.
The size and style of this gallery make it a great fit for elegant, intimate dinners.
Darwin Centre and Courtyard
The Darwin Centre offers a contemporary blank canvas for a multitude of events. Steel struts and reflective glass, together with the white limestone floor and curved concrete walls, provide a bright and modern event setting. The opportunity to explore the Cocoon during breaks adds an extra treat to any event.
How about an outdoor drinks reception in the tranquil courtyard as the sun sets, followed by dinner in the atrium?
The state-of-the-art Attenborough Studio provides the perfect space for press conferences and presentations, followed by drinks and canapés in the courtyard.
Mammals (blue whale)
Guests can see fossils and skeletons of extinct animals, alongside specimens of their living relatives, including a life-size model of the blue whale.
Guests will journey through the Darwin Centre, which hosts the fascinating Spirit Collection area, before arriving at this unique gallery for an intimate dinner or drinks reception.
