Beautiful Rooms - Kings Guard Chamber, Hampton Court Palace

Tuesday, December 6, 2022 - 17:15

The King’s Guard Chamber at Hampton Court Palace was the first in a sequence of carefully laid out State Rooms. During the seventeenth century, William III's guards slept here when the king was in residence, controlling access to his private apartments.

The awe-inspiring King’s Guard Chamber replicates William III’s assertion of power and dominance over his court which is evident through the breath-taking display of nearly 3,000 swords, bayonets, muskets and pistols.

The work was undertaken in 1699 by John Harris, who was also responsible for re-displays at Windsor, St James's Palace and the Tower.

With far reaching views of the Privy Garden and river Thames, this room has a maximum capacity of 200 people, which makes it ideal for all types of events.

The King’s Guard Chamber has been the backdrop to beautiful wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions and dinners and continues to be a much enjoyed space with clients.
