The rich, teal walls scream elegance and sophistication, and allow the priceless Raphael Cartoons, some of the most important works of art in Britain, to pop, and the scenes depicted in them to come to life. The Raphael Cartoons are a set of seven full-scale designs for tapestry painted by Raphael (1483 – 1520), and are considered one of the greatest treasures of the Renaissance. They were commissioned in 1515 by Pope Leo X for the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel and depict the lives of the apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Of the ten original designs only seven have survived and these can be seen today in the Raphael Court in the V&A.

A gilded archway frames the entrance into this impressive space, matching the gleaming, golden Spanish altarpiece which sits in the gallery’s apse, a glittering backdrop to events in the space.

The renovations weren’t purely aesthetic; one of the most important spaces in the Museum for events, the changes to the space were made with evening soirees in mind. Modifications to the ceilings ensure impeccable acoustics, perfect for a classical trio during dinner, or perhaps an operatic performance. Event lighting has also been added to the space, meaning clients will have one less thing to worry about while planning for an event here.
