Design Museum offers exciting new addition for events with latest exhibition: Skateboard

Wednesday, November 22, 2023 - 10:30

The Design Museum has opened the UK’s first major exhibition charting the design evolution of skateboards and it is available to hire for events as part of the museum’s winter and spring exhibition programme.

The exhibition was launched ahead of the Paris Olympic Games 2024 where skateboarding will be making its second appearance and will be open until 2 June 2024. The landmark exhibition chronicles the history of skateboard design, from the 1950s to the present day, from homemade, humble beginnings to today’s professional and technologically advanced models.

The museum has partnered with Focus Productions to create an exciting event package that takes inspiration from the exhibition itself. The production package includes a DJ booth, bar, and poseur tables, which pull together the creativity of skateboard design and culture, while complementing the museum’s stunning Atrium. The Atrium is a showstopping setting for a drinks reception, dinner, or party and with Focus Production’s input clients can create a fun and inspirational event that ties in with the exhibition’s design themes.

As part of the event package, guests will enjoy exclusive after-hours access to Skateboard, which features around 90 rare and unique boards, alongside 100 other objects, including hardware such as wheels and tucks, safety equipment, VHS tapes, DVDs, and magazines. Half of the skateboards are on loan from the Skateboarding Hall of Fame Museum in California marking the largest ever loan to the UK.

Livia Puggini, Head of Commercial Hire & Events at the Design Museum, comments: “We have an incredible programme of exhibitions that can be incorporated into events held at the museum to create a standout and memorable experience for guests. Skateboard offers a fascinating insight into the history of skateboarding as it gets set for its second appearance at the Paris Olympic Games next year. Working with Focus Productions, we can create a fun, themed event experience, alongside exclusive access to the exhibition itself.”

Skateboard runs until 2 June 2024 and is part of the Design Museum’s exhibition programme which also includes REBEL: 30 Years of London Fashion. To enquire about booking an event which incorporates Skateboard or REBEL, contact the Design Museum team now:  020 3862 5907 / venuehire@designmuseum.org
