It was in the early 1500s when Cardinal Thomas Wolsey took over Hampton Court. It was originally an ordinary country house, but Wolsey had other ideas. He intended for Hampton Court to become a magnificent palace where he could entertain royals and courtiers from across Europe. Wolsey wanted the palace to be fit for a King! We can all agree that he achieved this successfully. So successfully that by the 1530's, Hampton Court Palace belonged to King Henry himself.

Henry wanted the palace to signify his power and wealth and ensure that court life was like nothing seen before. Hampton Court was like a hotel, a place where many courtiers could come and experience the palace's lavish affairs, from sumptuous banquets to extravagant parties.

As a young man, Henry VIII was also known to be very athletic hence his vast leisure complex. The most famous is the Royal Tennis Court which we know he loved to play, and it is this tennis court which can still be enjoyed today.

Hampton Court's various features made it Henry VIII's pleasure palace, as it brought excitement and joy to its visitors. Even today, the palace can be enjoyed for various occasions, such as weddings, private dinners, or corporate parties, which is what makes it truly exceptional.
