Science Museum available for exclusive hire on limited dates

Tuesday, June 13, 2023 - 12:15

The Science Museum in London is offering event organisers the opportunity to exclusively hire the entire museum, in the heart of South Kensington’s cultural quarter, for large-scale, full-day events on limited dates throughout the year.

A museum takeover is ideal for larger events and those needing privacy including product launches, conferences, exhibitions, fashion shows, filming, and full-scale brand activations. As part of the exclusive hire opportunity, clients will have access to multiple spaces across the museum, including many impressive galleries, which are normally only available for evening hire.

IMAX: The Ronson Theatre or the dedicated events space, Illuminate, can be used as the main event space, with the museum’s galleries, including Making the Modern World, Flight, Wonderlab: The Equinor Gallery and Exploring Space, available for breakout sessions, networking, drinks receptions and dinners. The Smith Centre can also be hired for VIP meetings or dinners.

Exclusive hire was previously available in 2021 and 2022 when the museum was temporarily closed to the public on a Monday and Tuesday with clients including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), Imperial College Business School, the Government Office for Science, and the Department for International Trade hosting full or multi-day events across several spaces in the museum.

One of the most complex takeovers during this time was DCMS’ two-day forum, which utilised Illuminate for the main plenary, Flight for catering and Wonderlab, Information Age, Level 4 of Illuminate for breakouts and the Smith Centre as a ministerial area. The Global Pandemic Preparedness Summit in March 2022 was a three-day event which took over the whole museum and included a conference, drinks reception, catering breakouts and access to the galleries.

Bryony Mitchison, Group Sales Manager at the Science Museum, said: ‘We’re really pleased to be able to offer exclusive hire of the Science Museum on limited dates throughout the year. We had such an incredible response from clients when we were available for a full museum takeover in 2021 and 2022, and we’re looking forward to creating more stand-out event experiences that harness the potential of the entire museum. Exclusive full-day hire of the museum is limited throughout the year as we continue to ensure a sensitive balance between public access and these private events that support the museum financially.’
