UVL Member Venues Take Up The London Venue Million Metre Challenge

Tuesday, April 27, 2021 - 16:30

Spring is here and with venues coming out of hibernation and getting ready to host wonderful events again, we’re pleased to see so many of our members getting involved in a Unique Venues of London (UVL) well-being challenge.

Venues have been much quieter for over a year and the great teams within them have been patiently waiting to host more spectacular events whenever they can. Being furloughed or working from home has separated the teams that are created within venues, in an industry that is energetic and extremely social, a sense of community and being part of a team has been more challenging over the past 12 months.

The London Venue Million Metre Challenge is the brainchild of James Sargison (Million Metre Challenge Launch Manager) who was an avid member of the events industry for over a decade before joining the MMC team and knows the venues extremely well.

James has worked closely with Unique Venues of London, to create a wellbeing challenge for UVL member venues, enabling them to participate in a team challenge focused on their personal health.

The Million Metre Challenge is a social enterprise focused on benefiting the whole community who seek to improve their personal fitness, personal well-being and personal discipline, to improve the long-term wellbeing of 1,000,000 people. The team has focused on using technology to aggregate users fitness activities automatically from their chosen fitness app such as Strava, Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Health and many more.

Venues have put together teams to each reach a target of 1,000,000 metres over seven weeks. Improving personal wellbeing, keeping active to support mental health and finally reinvigorating team spirit. With some venues submitting larger teams they’ve had their distances increase to make it a fair race!

Through the advanced platform created by the Million Metre Challenge (MMC) everyone is able to watch the progress of each team and motivate them along the way.
