The Library is the most spacious of the five rooms at Trinity House and is the one most commonly used for larger receptions and important events, seating up to 130 (180 standing) .
It is not immediately apparent, on first entering the oval-shaped room, why it is so called as the books are concealed behind doors forming part of the scheme of the panelling.
On the west there is a display case containing an impressive selection of fine silver ware, over which is located an evocative Minstrels’ Gallery.
On the opposite side of the room are three stained-glass windows taken from the old hall at Deptford when it was demolished in 1788. Life-size portraits of key dignitaries include former Master of Trinity House, The Duke of Edinburgh, former Elder Brother, Sir Winston Churchill, and King Charles II.
Two exquisite round chandeliers are a key feature of the room, competing with the exceptional views over Trinity Square Gardens of the historic Tower of London - the outline of which, when lit in the evenings, is clearly visible through the tall sash windows. The windows are not framed by curtains in order that the views remain unimpeded.
There are two additional ‘break-out’ rooms off The Library – the Pepys Room (a popular option for dancing at weddings) and the Reading Room, also offering stunning views of The Tower.
