This extraordinary building was designed, built and lived in by one of Britain’s most influential Architects, Sir John Soane. In his countryside manor, Soane hosted lavish dinner parties and entertained artists and poets alike.
In 2015 the meticulous project to restore the house began, peeling back layers of history, extensions and overpainting and returning Pitzhanger to Soane’s original design, now visible again for the first time in over 175 years. With its stripped-back classical detail, canopy-domed ceilings, innovative decorative paint-schemes and inventive use of space and light, Pitzhanger features many of Soane’s trademark architectural features that he adapted in his later buildings including Dulwich Picture Gallery and his city home in Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
It is only fitting that we continue to use these magnificent spaces to host events which bring the manor back to its former character, in which laughter and music filled the halls. With conservation and creativity at the very heart of Pitzhanger, we love to see the spaces being used in an imaginative way, and can tailor your event to incorporate your ideas. A Georgian themed dinner and a dinner set up in the light-filled conservator are some of our favorites so far. We continue to this day to welcome an eclectic cohort of guests through the manor doors, from our returning locals, architect enthusiasts and artists, and even a visit from HM King Charles.
Whether you are planning a small gathering or a large celebration, we have a space to suit your needs. Choose from the Georgian Eating Room for a touch of tradition, Soane's Suite for his trademark designs, or our contemporary gallery for modern flair. As a dry hire venue, you will have the flexibility to design an event that suits your style, supported by our professional team every step of the way. From the initial planning stages to the final execution, we're dedicated to making your event unforgettable.
