Built in 1894, the Library maintains many of its original Victorian characteristics. Whether you’re a wedding guest sipping champagne under the stained-glass cupola, or a researcher leafing through our leather-bound volumes, the Library is a charming and inviting space for all.

Today, the Library houses a collection of rare reference materials and is home to one of the UK’s most subversive archives. Our collections celebrate the lives and communities often neglected by the mainstream, and include one of the UK’s biggest collections of LGBTQ+ history and culture.

Stepping into the polished wooden interior feels warm and welcoming, and the Library is an ideal space for guests to mingle. Its cosy atmosphere is perfect for an intimate drinks reception or wedding party. As a special added touch, guests can discover the stories from our archives with a hands-on archive workshop or tour.
Thanks to its unique historical features, the Library is also a popular space for filming. With recent clients including Amazon Studios, the BBC, and Channel 5, our team are experienced in handling filming enquiries of all scales, from small interviews to feature films.
