The Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) marked a historic milestone on Thursday 26 June 2025, as it celebrated 300 years since the first recorded cricket match was played at the Artillery Garden in the heart of the City of London.

To commemorate this anniversary, the HAC hosted a special match between the HAC Cricket Club XI and the Lord’s Taverners XI. Set against the stunning backdrop of Armoury House, the game featured cricketing legends Monty Panesar, Andy Caddick, and Graeme Swann, with David Gower and Mike Gatting umpiring.
Guests enjoyed a full day of celebrations, beginning with the cricket match and followed by an evening drinks reception, the traditional Beating Retreat, and a three-course dinner hosted by Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves inside Armoury House.
Cricket has long been part of the HAC’s rich history. The first reference to the sport at the Artillery Ground appeared in HAC records dated 7 October 1725. Over the following decades, the ground gained recognition as London’s premier venue for high-profile matches, hosted legendary players, pioneered rule changes, and attracted thousands of spectators.
Sarah McQueen, Catering and Events Director at the HAC, commented: “We’re really proud to be marking 300 years of cricket at the HAC. It’s a big part of our history and something that’s been played and enjoyed here for generations. It was great to be able to bring everyone together to celebrate that heritage in true HAC style—on the pitch, in good company, and enjoying first class hospitality in one of the most iconic settings in the City.”
