Have you ever wondered about the secret life that lives in art?
In a National Gallery first you are invited to join us as larger than life characters step out of a masterpiece of art and embark on a magical Christmas adventure. A tale of friendship, mystery and festive spirit set in the 1600’s.
Transforming the National Gallery theatre into a wintery scene.
This 60-minute musical theatre show will unfold in the National Gallery's theatre and is set inside the imagined world of one of the gallery’s paintings; Hendrick Averkamp's ‘A Winter Scene with Skaters near a Castle’.
In this entertaining family-friendly show, we are transported from the shores of the icy lake in Averkamp's painting into the depths of an enchanted winter forest.
We invite you to adventure along with two children, Frederick and Maaike, as we unite to defeat a frosty foe that is scheming to ruin Christmas.
Along the way we meet an industrious squirrel, a bold badger, an honourable deer and of course Father Christmas.
With the help of our forest friends, the power of love and some seasonal cheer we hope to save the day and Christmas too!
Expect songs, dance, and lots of laughter, all to the beautiful backdrop of Hendrick Avercamp’s ‘A Winter Scene with Skaters near a Castle’.
While you are with us take a moment to enjoy our fabulous Muriel’s Kitchen Christmas Pop Up Café before the production. Serving up cookies, sweets, sandwiches and all things nice for your little ones, as well as mince pies, soft drinks, hot beverages and mulled wine for you.
