Unique By Design: 66 Portland Place - An Art Deco gem

March 2025

66 Portland Place, the headquarters of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), is a Grade II* listed building that has been a prominent part of London’s architectural landscape since 1934. Fusing Art Deco and Swedish Modernism, the building’s design stands as a testament to the elegance and innovation of its era.

From the grand Florence Hall with its soaring ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and intricate patterned floors, the more modern RIBA Gallery with its natural light from the floor to ceiling windows to the historic Council Chamber with its original features, each space offers a completely unique atmosphere.

The etched glass windows, carved stone pillars, and intricate Art Deco features throughout the building add a distinctive character, showcasing the craftsmanship and creativity of the time.
