Illuminate, the purpose-built, two-floor space, designed by Mary Duggan Architects, stands as one of the Science Museum’s most striking architectural spaces.

Planned, designed and built over five years, Illuminate boasts an intuitive layout so that anyone stepping into the space can find their feet quickly. During the design process, a circular area naturally emerged at the heart of Level 5, ideal for smaller gatherings or dinners of up to 250 guests. To enhance this feature without creating a sense of unused space, a delicate, barely-there curtain was added to subtly define the area.

Illuminate’s panoramic window opened the space up to the daylight and views of London’s skyline. The quality of light positively impacts the health, state of mind and efficiency of delegates, while also helping create an engaging work environment and contributing to the transition from dark to light between the two floors.

Level 4 offers a blackout area which allows complete control over lighting to fully immerse guests in brand experiences, experiential events and presentations. Ascend from here to Level 5, and you’ll notice a shift—from dark resin floors and a sleek steel staircase to a luminous space filled with natural light, delivering a completely different ambiance.
