London's working arts centre built on historic foundations in the heart of the world's most creative capital, with an impressive 12 event spaces.

Built on historic foundations at the very heart of the capital, Somerset House is London’s working arts centre, home to the UK’s largest creative community and one of the city’s best loved public spaces.

 

The spectacular, neo-classical building offers 12 blank canvas, versatile event spaces, including indoor and outdoor spaces suitable for staging events of all styles and sizes - ranging in capacity from 10 to 1,500.Somerset House is ideally located, sitting between the River Thames and Covent Garden and is accessible via major transport links in the centre of the capital.

 

Somerset House is more than a building, it is a global platform for creativity, dedicated to nurturing and empowering ideas, backing newness and championing openness. Somerset House draws on its diverse cultural programme and creative community to provide event organisers with a unique offering.Organisers can enhance their events by combining the artistic and commercial offering, including private tours of the building and exclusive access to exhibitions.

As part of your event, you can make use of our beautiful outdoor spaces. Soak up the creative buzz in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain court while you listen to the dance of the fountains or take in the views of the River Thames and Southbank beyond on our River Terrace.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drink. From award-winning chef Skye Gyngell at Spring to the relaxed atmosphere at our newest café, Watch House and everything in between, there is definitely something for everyone.

And why not enhance your event further and motivate your guests with a historical tour of the building or one of our exciting exhibitions.

Located on the first floor of the South Wing, the Portico Rooms are a spacious and versatile suite of rooms offering a contemporary and exclusive location for your meeting.

With original features, natural daylight and uninterrupted views of the London skyline, the Portico Rooms offer a stylish and versatile backdrop. For any company get together

Included in the hire are two private balconies, which offer uninterrupted views of our famous Courtyard on one side and the River Thames on the other, providing a truly inspiring setting.

Morning Hire Access from 07:30-11:30 Venue Hire Fee: £2,500+VAT (includes supplier set up and derig)

Afternoon Hire Access from 13:30 – 17:30 Venue Hire Fee: £2,500+VAT (includes supplier set up and derig)

Full Day Hire Access from 07:30 – 17:00 Venue Hire Fee: £3,750+VAT (includes supplier set up and derig)

If one of our many onsite restaurants a cafes don’t take your fancy, our onsite caterer, Bryn Williams at Somerset House will ensure culinary excellence is at the forefront of your experience, while maintaining the highest standards of catering health and safety throughout your event.

AV Options

Option 1: AV Package from £1,445 + VAT Audio : PA sound system, mixing desk, 2 x handheld mics, 2 x lapel mics, 1 x lectern mic Presentation : 2 x 65” LCD Screens, 2 x laptops, seamless switching between slides and video, clicker and lectern Technician : 1 x technician

Option 2: Video Conference Upgrade (in addition to AV Package) from £1,601 + VAT A technician will manage a video conferencing presentation as host presenter using a show laptop. As host, they will be able to manage the participants, cue in presenters and advance slides. Also included is a camera operator and camera to capture all the action within the room for those joining remotely.

Option 3: Boardroom from £1,596.50 + VAT This option is designed for clients using the Portico room for a U-shaped or hollow square boardroom set up using push to talk microphones with our twin 65” LCD screens for PowerPoint. (If sound is required for the presentations, we would need to add a PA system).

Option 4: Live Streaming (in addition to AV package) from £3,919 + VAT Broadsword can create the perfect live streaming solution for your event and will put together a bespoke quote based on your requirements.

Enhance Your Event

Private Views: Combine your event with exclusive access to one of our exhibitions. Available outside public opening hours. Guest Tickets: Surprise your guests with tickets to an exhibition alongside your event. Available during exhibition opening hours.

Exhibition Talks and Tours: Offer your guests a unique insight into one of our exhibitions. Only available outside of opening hours.

Behind the Scenes Tours: Whether it’s an historical or film location tour, you can enrich your guests’ experience by taking them on a journey through Somerset House. Our Historical Highlights tours are typically 60 minutes and introduce the history of our magnificent 18th century building – taking in everything from Tudor intrigue to Georgian enlightenment. Your guide will lead the group from the intricate Lightwells to the atmospheric, subterranean Deadhouse, visiting graceful staircases and the iconic Edmond J .Safra Fountain Court.

Weddings at Somerset House

THE NAVY BOARD ROOMS
Steeped in history and dating back to the 18th century, the Navy Board Rooms are an impressive suite of rooms with a distinctive sense of charm and heritage.

Climbing the grand, sweeping Nelson Staircase is an experience in itself, as each flight is a one-off architectural work of art. Entering the main space, marble fireplaces and wooden floors create a grand atmosphere, with large sash windows offering panoramic views across the River Thames.

Originally home to the Navy Board, overseeing British naval affairs around the globe, the Navy Board Rooms are now a hugely popular venue. The interconnecting rooms offer wonderful natural light, original features and great flexibility.

PHOTOGRAPHY
One of the fantastic benefits of having your wedding at Somerset House is the opportunity to have photographs in our famous Edmond J Safra Fountain Court with its dancing fountains (seasonal).  Included in your hire is a 45 minute slot, following the ceremony, for photographs in our iconic Courtyard. The perfect backdrop for your day.

Please note that as an arts and culture centre open to the public, we cannot confirm what might be happening in the Courtyard or around the rest of the public areas at Somerset House at that time.  We have a very exciting and constantly expanding public programme, which sees lots of different installations, exhibitions, artwork and public events all over the site.  It’s a huge part of what makes us Somerset House.  There are also occasions where essential works need to take place on the building and these instances are out of our control.

ADD A SIT-DOWN RECEPTION
Available as an add-on for the Afternoon Ceremony only.
Currently available for up to 15 guests.

Option 1: Portico Rooms
While you and your guests are taking your photos in the beautiful Edmond J Safra Fountain Court, and enjoying a drink on our River Terrace, our suppliers can transform this space into the perfect sit down dinner.
Venue hire: additional £7,000+VAT.
This extends your guest access to 22:00, venue clear by suppliers by 23:00.
Includes a private area of our River Terrace between 16:00 – 17:30

Option 2: Seamen’s Hall
If you would like to host your sit down reception in a different space at Somerset House then the Seamen’s Hall, located on the ground floor of our South Wing, with marble floors, imposing Corinthian columns and huge windows, would be the perfect option. Entered via central doors from our stunning Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court, the Seamen’s Hall leads directly out onto our exclusive River Terrace, a section of which is included in the hire, offering panoramic views of the Thames and surrounding iconic London landmarks.
Venue Hire: additional £8,000 + VAT.
This will give suppliers access from 18:00, guests from 18:30-22:00 and venue clear by 23:00.
Includes a private area our River Terrace between 16:00 – 18:30

SIT-DOWN RECEPTION ONLY
If your ceremony is already booked then this is the perfect option for your celebration.
Currently available for up to 15 guests.

Option 1: Portico Rooms

With original features and uninterrupted views of the London skyline, the Portico Rooms offer a stylish and versatile backdrop for your sit down reception.

This will give suppliers access from 17:30, guests from 18:30-22:00 and venue clear by 23:00.

Option 2: Seamen’s Hall
Located on the ground floor of the South Wing, the Seamen’s Hall has marble floors, imposing Corinthian columns and huge windows, making it the perfect space for evening gatherings. Entered via central doors from our stunning Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court, the hall leads directly out onto our exclusive River Terrace, a section of which is included in the hire, offering panoramic views of the Thames and surrounding iconic London landmarks. With original period features including black and white marble flooring, it offers an air of expansive elegance, lending itself beautifully as an evening venue.
Venue Hire: £9,000+ VAT.
This will give suppliers access from 18:00, guests from 18:30-22:00 and venue clear by 23:00.
