The Courtauld Gallery

This October, The Courtauld is launching three brand new exciting exhibitions across the Gallery as part of our new Autumn Exhibition Season, helping us celebrate one year since our grand reopening.

In our Denise Coates Exhibition Galleries, guests can find an exciting exhibition by eccentric 18th century artist, Henry Fuseli, which explores the artist’s fascination with the modern woman and provides an insight into 18th and 19th century anxieties about gender and identity during a transformative period in European history.

Our Gilbert and Ildiko Butler Drawings Gallery features a remarkable exhibition on a forgotten female abstract artist, Helen Saunders, with our Project Space presenting a display centred on a lost piece created by Saunders in the early 1900s, which was magnificently rediscovered in 2019 by two of the Courtauld’s students as part of their studies.

All exhibitions are open to the public to visit or can be included as part of a venue hire event, with our fantastic Courtauld Experts on hand upon request to impart expert insight into our temporary exhibitions and permanent collection. For further details on how to give your guests a completely unique and elevated event experience this Autumn, please click here!

Elmer storytelling with Mama G

Why not get ready to sing, dance, laugh and celebrate being YOU at the Horniman this October half-term. These thirty-minute sessions of stories and songs are all about being who you want and loving who you are.

Mama G has been working with Andersen Press and sharing Elmer’s stories for the last three years. The books have taken her to major events including Hull’s Big Malarkey and Gloworm Festival, as well as libraries around the country in support of the Book Trust’s Summer Reading Challenge.

When she’s not hanging out with Elmer, Mama G shares her own stories at schools, theatres, nurseries, museums, prides and festivals all over the UK. She has told stories for Disney, HSBC, the South Bank Centre, Unicorn Theatre and even ZSL London Zoo. She also appears in pantomime every Christmas, as well as writing, directing and producing the panto at Stanley Arts in South Norwood and writing and directing the summer panto for Haven Holidays.

Mama G can’t wait for you to join her at the Horniman this October half-term!

For further information visit here

Alternatively take part in a Future Superheros Craft Workshop - Create a superhero of the future this Black History Month, cutting and collaging with recycled materials.

This workshop, led by artist Habiba Nabisubi, takes inspiration from traditional African artefacts in the Horniman’s collections, black comic book characters from Habiba’s personal archive, and afrofuturistic artworks from the 1960s onwards. Who will your fantastical Future Superhero be?

Museum of Brands

On 8 October 2022, the Museum of Brands in Notting Hill, West London, opened a new temporary display,

Aide-mémoire: Shopping Lists

The new display is an intimate look at our consumer habits in the 21st century. Each list gives a personal insight into trends and tastes, the continuing popularity of old favourites, the mundane and the downright bizarre. From the spelling and handwriting to the paper they are written on and the order they are written in, the lists expose people's choices, their habits, their celebrations, and the things they find important. They show a snapshot of everyday domesticity in 21st century England and share a glimpse into a person’s life through the items we buy and the little notes we leave to ourselves.

Take a look at the new display, from the 8th of October 2022 to the 31st of March 2023 at the Museum of Brands in Notting Hill.

Museum of London Docklands

This Autumn the Museum of London Docklands will explore how public executions shaped Londoners’ lives and the city’s landscape in a major new exhibition, Executions. From Smithfield to Southwark, from Banqueting House to Newgate Prison, executions became embedded in London’s landscape from the 12th century right through to the 19th. From October, the museum is bringing the rarely told and often tragic human stories behind these events to its new exhibition.

Executions will showcase a range of fascinating objects, paintings, and projections, including the vest said to have been worn by King Charles I when he was executed, a recreation of the Tyburn gallows with an immersive projection, last letters of the condemned and much more.

Clients hosting events at the museum between October 2022 – April 2023 have the opportunity to include a private viewing of the exhibition to really enhance the event experience for delegates.

To enquire about including the Executions exhibition as part of your next event at the Museum of London Docklands, email venuehire@museumoflondon.org.uk  or call 020 7814 5789.

Museum of the Order of St. John

We’re holding a special Halloween version of our Escape Room on Saturday 29 October!

Session 1: 17:30- 18:30

Session 2: 19:00-20:00

It’s the cusp of All Hallows' Eve in 18th century London and a chilly wind is blowing through Clerkenwell. Upstairs in St John’s Gate there is a secret that needs to be uncovered. One of the journalists at The Gentleman’s Magazine has been leaking state secrets. The reporters have sloped off to the Jerusalem Tavern and while they’re gone we need your help to uncover who the culprit is.

You will be led up a winding wooden staircase to the Council Chamber, the very room in which the writers of The Gentleman's Magazine hatched their plans to commit these treasonous acts. Once inside you will have to harness all your powers of deduction to follow a series of clues and uncover who is responsible.

We cannot be sure just how long the writers will spend in the pub, so your snooping must be quick. You will only have one hour to get to the bottom of the mystery.

We allow a maximum of 6 players for the Escape Room and drinks will be offered at the end of the game- all this snooping is thirsty work!

The Council Chamber is on the first floor at the heart of the historic Tudor gateway, accessible by stairs only. Please contact us if you require level access as it is possible to relocate the Escape Room to the ground floor out-of-hours: museum@sja.org.uk

It’s £140 for a group of six and tickets can be booked via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/halloween-special-escape-room-tickets-431610678157

RIBA at 66 Portland Place

Situated on London’s tree-lined Portland Place, RIBA at 66 Portland Place is a beautiful setting for special events, particularly during Autumn when the trees change colour and leaves fall. The versatile RIBA Gallery and atmospheric Aston Webb room are perfectly placed within the building to take advantage of this stunning view.

If you’re hosting an event for bigger numbers, the Florence Hall with capacity for up to 400 guests is the perfect option and also benefits from unique views courtesy of its floor to ceiling windows. And if the autumn breeze is not too cold, the Florence Hall terrace features a living wall which provides year-round colour.

To enhance the experience for guests attending events at 66 Portland Place this Autumn, the venue’s Practice Space, which showcases recent works by architecture practices around the globe, will feature the built projects of Atelier Deshaus, which guests can explore from 17th October – 26th November 2022. See the Soane by Candlelight

Every Autumn sees an increase in bookings for our Candlelit evening events, where Sir John Soane’s Museum is at its most atmospheric. Thrown into shadow and illuminated from below by flickering candles, the collections really do seem to come to life as our expert curators take guests on a tour through classical civilization, Canaletto’s Venice and Regency London.  The night includes a half hour drinks reception, ideal for business networking or catching up with friends, with the option to drink Ruinart, Soane’s favourite brand of Champagne.

Our other popular candlelit events are Soane Lates. Back after a brief summer hiatus, our upcoming lates will include special behind the scenes tours of our latest exhibition Neighbours in Space and Time: Grafton Architects at the Soane Museum while our December late will transport you back to Regency Christmas with carol singing and festive themed drinks.
