Sustainability is an important part when planning your events and our member venues are here to demonstrate how they share your commitment to hosting greener events.
Many of them highlight how working with trusted accredited suppliers they can support responsible event delivery from start to finish. With many of these suppliers being certified B-Corp companies or achieving other environmental certifications, along with the venues.
Venues can offer plant-forward and seasonally led menus that celebrate British farmers and provide the freshest produce along with many other responsible practices including recycling materials, operating zero to landfill policies and using renewable energy to name but a few commitments that are taking place.
In addition, venues can give you guidance that helps meet environmental objectives without compromising on creativity or impact.

When you hire the Mulryan Centre for Dance, sustainability is quite literally built in. Since moving into the purpose‑built building in 2019, English National Ballet has benefited from a venue designed with environmental responsibility at its core. Thoughtful choices in orientation, materials and construction help reduce energy use and environmental impact, from north‑facing glazing and high airtightness to concrete with lower embodied carbon and timber finishes that act as carbon stores.
The building is powered by intelligent systems, including carbon‑efficient district heating, LED lighting throughout, natural ventilation and a Building Management System that optimises heating and cooling – all contributing to its BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.
We also work with a trusted list of accredited suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, supporting responsible event delivery from start to finish.

Food with impact at Tower Bridge
At Social Pantry, sustainability and social impact are at the heart of everything we do. As a certified B Corp, we balance people, planet and profit to deliver events that are as responsible as they are memorable.
As the exclusive caterer for Tower Bridge Events, we bring this philosophy to life through plant-forward, seasonally led menus that celebrate British farmers, heritage varietals and the freshest produce. Our zero-food-waste approach transforms leftovers into herb oils, cordials, purees and sauces, ensuring nothing goes to waste, without ever compromising on flavour or style.
Social impact is central to our mission: since 2015, we’ve supported prison leavers with meaningful employment and training opportunities – work recognised with a prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in 2024.
We’re also proud to be part of Tower Bridge’s Green Team, supporting the venue’s sustainability goals and the City Bridge Foundation’s mission to make a positive difference for London’s people, communities and environment.
The result is events that combine an iconic London venue, outstanding service and delicious food – with impact.

More sustainable practices are at the forefront of the British Library’s strategy for events. No stone is left unturned to reduce waste and reuse materials.
The building is subject to regular energy monitoring, with a target of reducing energy usage by 4% year-on-year. One way in which the Library actively works towards this target is through our solar thermal panels which create hot water from sunshine.
The Library tackles issues around food and waste through partnership with Graysons. Working alongside Slow Food UK, Graysons sources ethically and locally, refreshes menus bi-annually, focuses on expansion of vegetarian and vegan cuisine options, and only uses reusable or recyclable materials in their processes.
Every step of the way clients are equipped and encouraged to host greener events at the British Library.

Sustainability and responsible event management are of paramount importance to Somerset House and, by extension, our accredited suppliers. We are actively responding to environmental issues and aim to be cultural leaders in our sector by championing sustainable practices. By working together, we can make positive changes and collectively reduce the impact of our events on the planet.
We have created a sustainability booklet that we share with clients to encourage them to think about sustainability at their event: https://media.somersethouse.org.uk/documents/Sustainability_Booklet_2025.pdf
Throughout the event planning process, we work with clients to make more sustainable choices at every step – whether that is encouraging clients to opt for reuseable branded elements over event-specific paraphernalia; using energy efficient screens over printed signage; or guiding their guests to our site via public transport rather than cars and taxis.
We work closely with our accredited suppliers to promote their pioneering sustainability initiatives, amplify their achievements in sustainability accreditation, and to present the most sustainable choices to our clients.
We’re proud to see an increase in sustainability considerations from our clients’ and continue to push ourselves to be informed on sustainability challenges and developments to deliver innovative and successful events.

Sustainability is at the core of all the Natural History Museum’s priorities, which includes all of its venue hire options, aiming to achieve net zero by 2035. It was one of the first venues in London to weight their tender process for suppliers towards sustainability and does not allow choice in menus in order to cut down on food waste.
The Museum’s venue hire team work with their clients at every stage of the planning process to sure events are as sustainable as possible, whether that be choice of materials to finding alternatives to badge or table plan printing.
In 2025, the Museum opened its newest events space, the Garden Kitchen, nestled within five acres of beautiful gardens that surround the building. The space was constructed as part of a zero-diesel, zero-wate project and is fitted with electric-based air source heat pumps to provide heating and the majority of its hit water demands.
